I've been doing upgrades to my entire setup for "playing" with crystal sets. Last evening I finally finished with the antenna and ground system mods. Part of the upgrade was to raise
the far end of my 188 foot longwire so that it was higher than the house end. It works much better now since the electrons have a downhill path all the way to the radio!

Wrong, Wrong. Electrons have negative charge, so the are repulsed from the earth. Therefore uphill is better. That way you can build the well known 'positive slope detector'.

I've been testing these Nobel Prize-worthy hypotheses all afternoon, and now there are electrons all over the floor... That's why I like loop antennas: There are no ends for electrons to fall out of. The advantage of rotatable antennas is, you can line them up with Earth's magnetic field. If you get the alignment just right, the field gives the electrons a push (think of it like a tailwind). (This effect was documented by Russian physicist D.R. Opsky, who is, unfortunately, better known for his homemade vodka.) J.B., if you can arrange to rotate your lot, you'll see what I mean.

73,

What I also like about loops, is that they also can be aligned with the earth's rotation  so the electrons can experience extra acceleration due to the number of turns matching earth's rotation (hence better performance in the MW/LW bands). You can test this by rotating the loop 180 degrees, and measure the difference.

BULL!!

Everybody knows that the theory on electron flow has been revised!!
Direction of flow was off by 180 degrees.

Current actually flows from what was thought to be negative to positive
not positive to negative. Heard about this in electronics class while at ITT.

Still makes understanding theory a little confusing relearning theory from years ago.

To get the best signal (electron flow) you have to improve what you would have thought was ground since flow is actually from negative to positive.

Still helps to improve your aerial even though the aerial is the actual ground!!
